Cyber Security - Can you hack it?

This Mission requires students to use their team work and problem solving skills to successfully solve a contemporary cyber security issue.

Students will actively participate in an ethical hacking scenario, applying security concepts, with opportunities to develop cryptography, programming, digital forensics and reverse engineering skills to successfully solve the issue.

Cyber Security is designed to meet the curriculum through differentiated programs for students in Years 7-12.

Things to note:

Cyber Security offers 3 programs in a full day immersive experience, allowing for travel time to and from the Centre.  E.g. Class for a full day  9:30/10:00am – 2:00pm.  See more information tab for a breakdown. 

Cyber Security programs requires two adults to attend to accompany students.

Cyber Security programs caters for a class of 32 students.

As a guide Minimum: 16 students  Maximum: 32 students

Cyber Bootcamp: Think, Defend, Secure – Full Day Years 7-12

Students work in a team and use their problem-solving skills to successfully complete a scenario-based cyber security problem solving activity, based on a current industry scenario. Students will have access to our dedicated cyber security SOC and learning facilities. 

Students will be introduced to the principles of Cyber Security and provided with case studies to learn about Blue Team and Red Team Ethical Hacking. Unpacking how to work in a red team blue team environment to protect data and information for a client. 

Teams will use communication protocols and roles to establish ways of working to reach an outcome. This learning opportunity can be delivered face to face or online to students.  

Cyber Strike– Full Day Years 7-12 

In Cyber Strike, students will step into the roles of cyber attackers, learning firsthand the strategies and techniques that underpin real-world cyber security. The session begins with the Questacon Cyber Team Red tabletop activity, where students collaborate to tackle simulated cyber challenges, thinking like a red team member while developing teamwork and essential cyber skills. Following this, students will engage in collaborative discussions, reflecting on their chosen strategies, identifying strengths, and exploring areas for improvement. They’ll also gain insight into cyber security careers, discovering the skills and pathways needed to thrive in this fast-growing industry. This engaging, hands-on session bridges practical problem-solving with industry knowledge, equipping students with valuable critical thinking and communication skills.

Capture the Flag – Full Day Years 10-12 

This program introduces students to cyber skills used in Capture the Flag scenarios, culminating in a simulated CTF challenge. It is recommended for students studying cyber security or as a follow-up to Cyber Bootcamp.

Mission To Mars

This Mission requires students to use their problem solving skills to successfully complete a geological survey of the Mars surface! Students actively participate as astronauts, mission controllers and research scientists to successfully complete the scientific mission.

Plants in Space

This Mission requires students to use their team-work and problem solving skills to successfully complete a space inquiry. Students actively participate in a current research scenario, with a focus on answering key questions about selecting the best plants for space to successfully complete the inquiry mission.
