Laboratory Technician Jane Alexander from Joseph Banks Secondary College has been nominated for the Department’s 2026 Women of Achievement Award, recognising her outstanding contribution to STEM education and student learning.
Jane consistently goes above and beyond her role, supporting teachers, mentoring new staff and strengthening science programs across the school. She is dedicated to creating hands-on, inclusive and accessible learning experiences that build confidence and spark curiosity in STEM.
Her nomination highlights her commitment to fostering opportunity in STEM education, particularly through engaging, practical experiences that encourage students to experiment, problem-solve and explore new concepts with confidence.
Jane also had a role in designing the Mission to Mars program for the Western Australian Space Education Centre, delivering immersive STEM experiences to students from Years 5 to 12. She is especially passionate about encouraging girls and young women to pursue pathways in STEM and embrace lifelong learning.
Through her work, Jane continues to inspire students to recognise the possibilities available through science and STEM education.
The winner was announced at the International Women’s Day breakfast at Optus Stadium, featuring special guest speaker Liz Ellis. Congratulations to Patricia Levitzke-Gray from Shenton College Deaf Education Centre, recipient of the 2026 Director General’s Women of Achievement Award.
